Christmas in the City Inspiration Playlist

This week marked the release of my third Christmas album “Christmas in the City.” In the last few years I have had the great fortune to be able to travel around the world and learn how different parts of the world celebrate Christmas. No matter how far my Christmas music took me, I would always proudly recount and recall to new friends how amazing Christmas in New York City.

Being a born and raised New Yorker, I carry a sense of Christmas pride about my hometown. After all, it’s the birthplace of Christmas history. Did you know that Santa’s sleigh was modeled after the horse can carriages in New York City? Is there any grander Christmas tree than the one at Rockefeller Center?

There was a song I would often sing to myself, while on tour on Christmas adventures. It was a song I had written years ago about Christmas in New York City. I knew that I wanted to share this song on this record. Only because it started to have more meaning to me whilst on the road for my Christmas music.

But to write a song about New York City? That’s a big feat within itself – forget the Christmas song element of it.

While I was producing the record, I had a few key songs I would send around to my fellow musicians. “Make it sound like this!” I would say. Often times I would be referring to Nat King Cole, Billy Joel or Alicia Keys. If I had done my job correct, without buying my record, you’ll be able to capture the sonic textures of my record by listening to this playlist! Like most all of my records I like to have something for everyone.

So friends, I present to you, my “Christmas in New York” playlist! Every song on this playlist was a source of inspiration for my record this year! 🙂

Let me know how close I got with Christmas in the City! 😉
