12 Days of Elizabeth Chan Daily Christmas Songs: #1 Hey Santa!

Hey Santa is my favorite Daily Christmas song I’ve written this year. I had never played a ukelele in my life before I wrote this song. In fact, I marched into a Guitar Center looking for a “slide” when I meant “capo.” There was a huge display of ukeleles and like a piece of metal to an industrial magnet — or a moth to a bonfire flame, I gravitated towards it.

I didn’t leave the display for hours.

In fact I was just strumming nonsensically around the store with random Guitar Center customers, singing one note songs. Having a great time. I knew I had to bring the ukelele home.

Something happens to me when I am playing/singing/writing music. I go into this super focus trance. Almost as if under a deep spell. I’m encased in this hyper focus that is almost unbreakable until I am satisfied with the outcome of my work.

Hey Santa! is the first song I wrote the first day I got my ukelele. I had to figure out what sounded right to me. The lyrics flowed out so easy. Honestly, I often dream of warm locations to travel to around the globe during Christmas. This is the first time in a while that I haven’t travelled for Christmas. It’s just not in my cards this year. I found myself singing this song all year round, hoping to escape to a balmy climate of sorts.

So on this wonderful Christmas eve, I present to you “Hey Santa.” My favorite daily Christmas song this year! :) Happy Christmas Eve! I can’t believe the day is almost here!!
