Back to Work!

It has only been a week since Christmas and the last spin for Fa La La happened only a couple days ago.

After a couple weeks off for the holiday and have spent my “vacation” days walking around my favorite city, watching movies, visiting all the holiday sights and spending time with my family. I love taking long walks in Manhattan, getting to acquaint myself with this city I love and its many iterations.

The temporary sidewalk forests of the tree salesmen are long gone, and in its place along the streets of Manhattan are the strewn carcasses of Christmas trees of 2013 past.  I would like to look the people in the eye who think its ok to take a Christmas tree down by 12/26. C’mon Now! Really people?

Christmas time for me never ends – it does feel a bit more lonely as people return back to work and the Facebook and Twitter feeds no longer have glorious pictures of trees, smiles and gifts. I really enjoy the burst of holiday inspiration.

I was also dismayed that the incoming New York City mayor decided to call for a war on Horse Drawn Carriages in NYC before his inauguration during the holiday season. On one hand, I’m a huge animal lover, and do not appreciate the mistreatment of animals. On the other hand, I appreciate the historical significance. In fact, the whole lore of Santa and his sleigh was inspired by this long standing recreation. The horse drawn carriages are what makes NYC magical for tourists. I imagine its an important ingredient for romanticising  the city, although admittedly I’ve never been. This is the capital city for Christmas inspiration, and to lose the horse drawn carriages would take away a bit of this Christmas magic. There must be a better way to address the issues without throwing away the history.

While people are placing their Christmas trees to the curb and the mayor is trying to get rid of the Horse and Carriages – it means one thing. The holiday season is over, but for me this means a new one is just beginning.
Back to work! 🙂

This time last year, I made a list of things I wanted to accomplish for 2013. I revisited this list for the first time since last year and found I had accomplished everything but for a handful of items. Accomplished doesn’t necessarily mean that I succeeded – for the outcome of many of the items could be considered failures (or blessings in disguise), but either way were ventured towards in earnest. Failures are valuable lessons and in retrospect provided solid training and preparedness for other things I was able to accomplish later in the year. 🙂

I’ve been mulling over in my mind the list of things for 2014. This year I’m starting with more of an education and have laid out a foundation which will make this year even more interesting. It is going to be an exciting year and I cannot wait to share with everyone what I’ve got in store.

Happy 2014! Christmas is only 356 days away!
