Hi Everyone. It has been QUITE a few days. My family and I were evacuated from our home because of Hurricane Sandy in New York. We were lucky to have family that lived north of where the flooding and storm surge occurred. My husband and I are one of the luckier New Yorkers who returned to our apartment with electricity. That’s not the same for our neighbors and nearly a 600,000 people in New York City. It’s been very eerie to look out the window where there would normally be lit windows and a comforting glow of the buildings next to us — and have complete pitch back darkness.

It’s been really humbling. I witnessed people fighting for food at my local grocery store yesterday, it was the only grocery store that maintained full power for the last few days. Streets have been completely unsafe to navigate in because of the deluge of cars, lack of traffic lights and millions of people walking around. Very very humbling.

Halloween night, in pitch darkness in Manhattan and looking out to New Jersey is one of the spookiest things I’ve ever experienced. I’m not much of a Halloween person — but I am a New Yorker, and I hope that the city is quick to recover from this national catastrophe.

Truly lucky. Truly blessed. Please pray for those who did not fare so well during this disaster.
